Personalized Earrings: The Families
Three lines make up the heart of the collection. The Original Personalized Ear Cuff wraps along the curve of the ear and hand-shapes a custom word on request. The Stud Earring comes in two distinct styles: the "Original Initial" version, like the Original Initial Stud in 14k Yellow Gold-Filled, and the "Capital Initial" version, such as the Capital Initial Stud in 18k Yellow Gold. A men's option is also available on this capital-letter style, in both 14k gold-filled and 18k gold. Finally, the Original Personalized Hoop Earrings carry the same hand-shaped word on a circular form.
Not every model in the collection is personalized the same way, and not every piece in the catalog can be personalized: each product page specifies the option available.
The art of precious wire
Every letter is hand-shaped from a single gold or silver wire.
The metal is cold work-hardened to hold its shape, then reinforced with laser micro-welding at the tension points. Atelier Paulin has been hand-shaping in Paris since 2014.
How Many Letters, and on Which Style?
Two personalization logics coexist here, and they shouldn't be confused. On one hand, the custom word, hand-shaped on request: on the Ear Cuff and the Hoops, the Maison hand-shapes a word or first name in lowercase letters, with the exception of the letter "J," which is capitalized at the start of a word. Accents and apostrophes are not hand-shaped; a space can be added upon request. The style used for this word is cursive script — the only lettering style hand-shaped by the atelier.
On the other hand, the initial: the "Original Initial" styles feature one or more initial letters referencing one or more first names, hand-shaped in lowercase. The "Capital Initial" styles, meanwhile, are written in uppercase: this is the only family in the collection where the capital letter is the rule, not the exception. The Men's Capital Initial Stud follows this same principle, available in 14k gold-filled or 18k gold.
One technical detail worth knowing: work-hardening — the cold-working of the metal that gives the wire its shape memory — is applied to the entire piece after hand-shaping, never letter by letter. The hand-shaped wire is also reinforced with laser micro-welding at tension points, which has nothing to do with engraving, where a design is carved into a flat surface.
14k Gold-Filled, 18k Gold, or Sterling Silver?
Three materials make up the collection, each with its own properties.
14k gold-filled, also known as Gold Filled, consists of a solid layer of 14-karat gold bonded to a base metal core. It contains 50 to 100 times more gold than traditional gold plating and is only available in yellow or rose — never white. This is the material found on the Original Personalized Ear Cuff in Yellow 14k Gold-Filled or the Capital Initial Stud in Yellow 14k Gold-Filled.
18k gold is a solid gold wire made of 75% pure gold, sometimes referred to as traditional French gold. Each piece is hallmarked, certified, and hand-shaped by one of the Maison's artisan jewelers. It also comes in white gold, as seen on the Original Personalized Ear Cuff in 18k White Gold or the Capital Initial Stud in 18k White Gold.
Sterling silver, for its part, is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver, with a bright white finish that is hypoallergenic and antibacterial — well suited to sensitive skin.

Wearing and Caring for a Hand-Shaped Piece
Care depends on the material chosen. 14k gold-filled requires no special attention: it can handle water, showers, pools, or the beach without issue, unlike gold plating. The only precaution, to preserve the delicacy of the hand-shaped form, is to remove it during intense physical activity. 18k gold should be cleaned with warm water and mild soap, then dried with a soft cloth. Sterling silver is a living metal: a light tarnish may appear on contact with air or moisture — a natural and reversible process — though it's best to avoid pools, showers, and sports while wearing it.
Every piece in the collection comes presented in a gift box. Hand-shaping takes 1 to 3 business days for sterling silver and 14k gold-filled, and 2 to 5 business days for 18k gold, before shipping. In Paris, personalization can also be done directly at the atelier, in about thirty minutes.
